Summer Fun in Kentucky and Southern Indiana

Are you looking for some fun things to do as a family, but don’t want to travel too far? Here are some exiting adventures in different areas throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana for you to explore.  This is definitely not a comprehensive list, but hopefully it will spark your interest to find something great that your family will enjoy.

Louisville Area

 The Parklands of Floyds Fork is great because it is FREE! There are trails to walk or bike. You can rent kayaks to travel down the creek. There are also several nice playgrounds and splash parks.

Bernheim Forest is a beautiful place to visit if you want to take a short trip outside of the city and they have a BRAND NEW Playcosystem! Free, wild and adventurous play in nature will ignite children’s imaginations at Bernheim's 10-acre natural playground. Playcosystem is designed in harmony with nature to provide children with open-ended, physically challenging, and unstructured play opportunities that support healthy development.

 Little Big ATV Tours in LaGrange just added a Gem Mining and Rock Shop! It’s not even displayed on their website yet, but you can find out more about it on Facebook here. This looks like a fun thing for the family to enjoy, with a variety of prices to fit your budget.

Northern Kentucky

 The Newport Aquarium offers a shark tunnel, penguins and several hands-on experiences. 

 The Ark Encounter features a full-size Noah’s Ark built according to the dimensions given in the Bible! Kids 10 and under are FREE for 2021.

Southern Bluegrass

Bluegrass Scenic Railroad runs a 90-minute train ride from Versailles through the country side and you can explore the museum.

 Fort Harrod State Park takes you all the way back to the 1770’s! Explore some history at the Mansion Museum and discover the largest Osage Orange tree in the US.

 Bowling Green

 Lost River Cave offers boat tours through the cave and also has a beautiful park to explore via hiking or ziplines. Other fun things to do include visiting the butterfly habitat or mining for gems.

Beech Bend Amusement Park and Splash Lagoon promises to be a family-oriented park.  There are lots of fun rides, a lazy river and so much more. 

Southern Indiana

 Holiday World is a family-friendly place to spend riding roller coasters or cool off in the water park.  One great thing to note is that Holiday World has a calming room available for guests with special needs who will benefit from a quiet, relaxing break from the park’s sensory stimulation.

 Marengo Caves offers both walking tours or crawling tours for the more adventurous. Licensed Indiana Foster Care families can receive free tickets!

 Indianapolis Children’s Museum features both indoor and outdoor exhibits for a full day experience with your family. Licensed Indiana Foster Care families can receive free tickets!

 Wilstem Wildlife Park is full of interesting things to do! You can drive through a safari or schedule animal encounters.
