Meet Kimber

Kimber Graves, TBRI® Practitioner
Family Coach
Trauma Educator

Kimber earned a degree in English from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. She began her career in writing and public relations for a global ministry dedicated to helping families thrive. An avid researcher, writer, and communicator, Kimber’s lived experience as an adoptive parent cultivated in her a passion for empowering parents, caregivers, and communities to create nurturing and safe environments where children can heal.  She is deeply committed to providing education, empathy, and support to hurting families.

With nearly two decades of child welfare experience, Kimber worked for a global social services agency as an adoption specialist, trauma educator, marketing coordinator, and regional satellite supervisor. A TBRI® Practitioner, Kimber has worked as a telehealth parent coach and educator, as well as serving for many years at OCA as a Regional Ministry Leader, Connect Group Leader, and Trauma Trainer. Within the context of her local church, she also coordinated post-adoption education and support. Kimber has written many articles for national publications, has been a guest on foster/adoption related podcasts, and has spoken at national and regional conferences, churches, and seminars.

Kimber has been married to her husband, Scott, since 1992. They are the proud parents of three grown children (two of whom were adopted internationally), one lovely daughter-in-law, and the most amazing grandson! In her free time, Kimber enjoys cooking, reading, and thrift shopping.

  • "When there was no playbook, and no community with a true understanding of what it meant to journey alongside a child from hard places, God placed Kimber in our lives to guide and offer hope. Kimber brings her own life experience as an adoptive mom and years of professional experience in the field to minister to families with authenticity and grace. She came alongside during our darkest days of parenting and listened WELL. She taught us to see, parent, and connect with our daughter through the lens of trauma. She's adept at sorting through the muck and complexity of family issues and dynamics and brings clarity and direction for each next step. God has divinely equipped Kimber for this ministry and she stewards her gifts with professionalism and love. She gets it, my friends, and she cares!"

  • Our family recently adopted a sibling group. One of our children has special needs. Kimber has been such an amazing encouragement to us! She has helped us walk through what TBRI looks like with special needs. Reminding us to take it one day at a time sometimes one minute at a time. The resources she has sent me in-between our sessions were also just what I needed for that day to be encouraged to keep going. Her wisdom, compassion and encouragement has been in valuable!

WHAT MAKES FAMILY COACHING SUCCESSFUL?

Different from therapy, counseling, or parenting classes, family coaching partners with parents to focus on relationships, not just behavior. We give caregivers directive guidance and consider the unique strengths and challenges of each specific child and family. Parents learn new ways to connect with and respond to their child – as children feel heard, seen, and understood, their needs are met, and behaviors decrease!

DOES FAMILY COACHING REPLACE COUNSELING OR THERAPY?

Family Coaching is not mental health therapy. Mental health services are appropriate when behavior or emotional distress reach a clinical level.
