It’s a new year, with new beginnings! We are so excited to share the wonderful opportunities and doors God is opening for OCA as we start out 2019. On the forefront is our partnership with Focus on the Family and Uniting Kentucky, which you can read about here. In an effort to grow the number of foster and adoptive families in Kentucky, we will be touring the state for various events with these fantastic organizations.
There are nearly 10,000 kids in state care throughout Kentucky and the number is climbing due to the opioid crisis. We believe that the Church is the solution to care for these kids. Our heart is to empower the Church to accomplish this mission.
How To Become A Foster, Adoptive, or Respite Care Family In Kentucky
There are approximately 8,000 churches throughout Kentucky, where thousands of believers gather together. We long to see those people rise up to create communities of care around foster and adoptive families to show Christ’s love to these precious kids. The first step in caring for these children is recruiting and training foster, adoptive and, respite care families throughout the faith-based community.
Another strategic opportunity we have this year is that OCA is now approved to provide foster care training for the state of Kentucky! We are focusing our efforts on training those in the faith-based community. In 2019, OCA will conduct a minimum of 20 trainings throughout all nine foster care regions in Kentucky.
We will also provide state-approved respite training for families who want to support foster families. The trainings will be presented from a Biblical perspective, through trainers recruited by OCA. Our first foster care training is scheduled for this coming Saturday and we are encouraged by the large registration numbers.
Once families are approved foster parents, OCA will continue to support them by providing connection to others on the same journey and educational opportunities. A few of these opportunities include: monthly Connect groups throughout the state, OCA’s annual H3 conference, family counseling, and trauma training for churches with one of our four TBRI ® Practitioners on staff.
We hope you will join us this year in our efforts to recruit, train, and support foster and adoptive families throughout Kentucky. Together we can make a difference in our community! Check our calendar to register for Uniting Kentucky and Focus on the Family events, foster care or respite training, or to find Connect groups in your area.
