Orphan Care Alliance has been working to assemble a list of resources and services that support the families and children involved in foster care and adoption. For each agency, we are listing the counties in which an organization states they operate.
Orphan Care Alliance has not evaluated these organizations and cannot speak to the quality of goods or services provided by each organization.

Adoption Support for Kentucky (ASK)

Description: ASK specializes in the utilization of support groups to offer pre and post-adoptive support and services to foster parents. ASK strives to prevent pre-adoption disruption and post-adoption dissolution through peer-led support and training.

Description: A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer acts as an advocate for a dependent, abused or neglected child. The volunteer is appointed by a Family Court Judge. The volunteer’s responsibilities include assessing the circumstances surrounding the case, making an independent evaluation of what is in the child’s best interest—both immediately and in the long run, attending court hearings, and monitoring the case until a permanent plan is approved by the court. CASA takes all cases of child abuse or neglect that go through Juvenile Court. These children deserve to have an adult who is advocating for their best interests. The CASA volunteer helps to assure that children don’t get lost in the system and remain in foster care for many years.

Description: Boys & Girls Haven Foster Care program is a nonprofit serving males and females ages birth to 21 years in need of stable, therapeutic quality homes. Most of the children who come into our care have experienced trauma due to abuse, neglect, domestic violence, drug use, and human trafficking. We strive to meet the children’s needs by recruiting, training, and certifying quality foster parents. We then match children with foster families to create the least restrictive, safe, and stable family environment. Our professional staff provides round the clock support to assist families with their needs.

Description: Court Appointed Special Advocates exist to give children in the family court system a voice. Volunteers are paired with children and will follow them through the entire court process. The advocates not only build relationships with the children but visit foster homes, doctors and schools to ensure the child is receiving what they need to heal. CASAs report to the family court judge and make suggestions on the child’s case.

Description: Crossroads believes every mother and father should feel loved and supported during and after their pregnancy, whether it was planned or unplanned. We offer pregnancy testing, limited obstetric ultrasounds, peer counseling, prenatal and parenting education, fatherhood classes, and post-abortive help for those who regret a decision to terminate a pregnancy. All clients receive “resource cash” for their participation and learning that can be used in the Resource Store to purchase needed items like diapers, car seats, cribs, and household cleaning products.

Description: DCCH is a faith-based, non-profit agency. Our roots started in orphan care 170 years ago, but merged the Campbell and Kenton’s St. Joseph Orphanage and St. John Orphanage and renamed it the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home—later nicknamed DCCH Center for Children and Families, since services expanded. We provide therapeutic foster care services for youth from birth to age 21, adoption services, a residential program, and an Independent Living Program. DCCH has added outpatient community therapy services and targeted case management.

Description: Guardians of the Children is a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who fight for child abuse and neglect victims. They invite these children into their biker family and give them a person to talk about how they are doing and empower them to be strong enough to face their abuser in court. They stay by their side through the whole process.

Description: Life in Motion seeks to be the region’s premier leader in the field of holistic therapy. They focus on the client’s mental, physical, and spiritual health. They offer teen self-esteem groups as well as support groups for adolescents who have been displaced from their homes.

Description: New Pathways operates two residential homes for children who need a safe, secure place to live while families are working through a crisis situation. New Pathways also has a mentoring families program.

Description: SAFY’s model of care is a way of working with families across service systems to enhance their capacity to care for and protect their children. Area: Stormhaven is located in Shelbyville, KY. Clients will need to travel to Shelbyville.
Description: Stormhaven rescues horses and pairs them with hurting children for healing. We teach relationships with a horse, which leads to people and ultimately, God. The children relate to the horse’s struggle and see themselves in the horse’s mirror, opening their heart for healing.

Description: Formerly known as Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, Sunrise provides a full continuum of services to at-risk individuals through its nonprofit ministry. Sunrise remains committed to caring for children who have been abused and neglected and who have been removed from their homes. We offer therapeutic residential treatment, foster care, adoption services and family counseling. The Joint Commission has given Gold Seal accreditation to Sunrise.
