Orphan Care Sunday

We Don’t Talk About Orphan Care Enough, and That Has to Change.

It’s inconvenient and hard.

Many people want to ignore it: God’s call to care for the Fatherless. Even though it is woven throughout Scripture, it’s largely ignored. You can find it in Exodus 22, Proverbs 23, Isaiah 1 and in other passages.

It’s so important to God that one of His names is “Father to the Fatherless” (Psalm 68).

It’s essential that pure, undefiled religion is described as taking care of the orphan in James 1:27.

And yet, one rarely hears sermons on the topic. There aren’t slick, six-week Bible studies with videos and discussion guides about caring for the orphan. It’s as if people don’t believe that the Father of the Fatherless will help His children care for the Fatherless.

What Can We Do?

The Church has been called to this mission. And OCA is called to assist the Church with her God-given mission. We equip local churches with the tools needed to share God’s vision during worship and throughout the year.

Many churches hold a special emphasis Sunday in order that God’s heart for the fatherless is not missed by its members. We have created materials for a special Orphan Care Sunday emphasis. We also have staff members who can share the needs with congregations.

Orphan Care should be more than a one Sunday a year emphasis.  And OCA is here to equip churches throughout the year with training, consultants and other resources.

God’s call to care for the Fatherless is for every believer. Ignoring it does not change it.

When you are ready, OCA is ready to equip you and walk with you as you answer His call.
