Amber Walsh: Family Outreach Coordinator

Meet Amber Walsh, our Family Outreach Coordinator.

Amber Walsh has always had a heart for people walking through difficult seasons. Before joining Orphan Care Alliance, she spent years serving in ministries that cared for vulnerable adults. This included women experiencing homelessness, trauma, single motherhood, or even recovering from sex trafficking.

But, over time, Amber began noticing a pattern: so much of the pain she was seeing in adulthood had its roots in childhood trauma. Many of the women she worked with had come through foster care or broken homes. That realization stirred something in her.

“I wanted to prevent adult trauma by minimizing childhood suffering,” Amber explains. “That’s what led me to Orphan Care Alliance.”

After serving as a caseworker for three years, Amber is now the Family Outreach Coordinator for OCA. She is working alongside Family Outreach Director, Stephanie Proctor to provide resources and support to foster, adoptive, kinship, and vulnerable families. That often means walking with Care Coaches and families as they navigate complex challenges – reminding them they don’t have to do it alone.

Her favorite part of the work?

“When I see families or children go from a place of dysfunction to actively thriving in their homes and local church. Being able to see the way the Lord transforms their lives and completely empowers them to change is my favorite part of this job. We get to watch families break generational trauma up close.”

Amber’s story carries an important reminder: you don’t have to be a foster family to make a difference. “There are so many different avenues that allows you to serve foster children or family that doesn’t include fostering,” she says. “It often deters many from getting involved and that is a stigma I would love to break!”
