What is Life Coaching?
Life coaching is more than mentorship; it’s a relationship. It’s not about fixing someone’s life; it’s being present in it.
At its core, life coaching is about walking alongside a young person as they navigate life’s challenges and opportunities. For youth with foster care, kinship care, or adoption experience, this kind of relationship can be life changing.
Many young people in foster care grow up without consistent, supportive relationships with adults. Life coaching fills that gap by pairing them with a trusted, caring adult who commits to showing up regularly. Young people with kinship care or adoption experience can likewise navigate difficulties as they go through the teenage years.
Life Coaching is Consistent
Coaches commit to spending time with their mentee, typically ages 12- 21, an hour each week for at least a year. This consistency provides encouragement and stability.
Life Coaching is Intentional
OCA Life Coaches listen with their hearts. They then build on their relationship to encourage their mentees to set goals, develop life skills, and offer support.
Life Coaching is Relational
It’s about knowing a young person’s story, reminding them they matter, and helping them see their purpose and potential.
Life Coaching is Rewarding
Most OCA Life Coaches beam when talking about their mentee. They love the kids they serve, and it shows. They feel blessed to be involved in their young person’s life.
