The Need for Community
The adoption, kinship care, and foster care journey is a mix of joy, challenge, growth, and uncertainty. While every
family’s story is unique, one thing remains true: no one should walk this journey alone. For families considering foster care, navigating the adoption process, or parenting a child from a hard place, having a community that understands can make all the difference.
That’s why Orphan Care Alliance created OCA Connect Groups. This is done through fellowship, practical support, and Christ-centered community. OCA Connect helps families find strength for the journey and reminders that they are never carrying their burdens alone.
The Need for Connection
“Connect groups are just that, a place for foster, adoptive, and kinship families to connect. A safe space where they can laugh together, cry together, and see that they are not alone,” shares Stephanie Proctor, Family Outreach Director.
OCA Connect is a support group designed for families in ALL stages of the adoption, foster care, and kinship care journey. Connect meetings feature specialists who come alongside parents to answer some tough questions. They also provide opportunities to fellowship and encourage other families in a safe and loving environment.
Stephanie added, “Jesus was relational. At OCA we believe healthy relationships are crucial. We want people to be relational and to have vulnerable conversations about hard things. Foster care, adoption, and kinship care can be tough, but together we can get through so much more.”
The Need for a Safe Place
Joan Miller, Connect Group Adoption Specialist, describes the Lexington group, “Our connect group is a safe place for parents, grandparents and those who love foster or adopted kids to vent, learn and laugh with one another. Everyone is transparent and honest. This is a no shame or judgment zone. We are here to help.”
