Gateway: Supporting Social Workers and Preserving Families

If you’ve been keeping up with our blogs, you know that our theme for February was LOVE! If you missed any of them, see how we love adoptive families, how we love foster children, and how we love vulnerable families. Throughout the month of March, we want to carry on that theme to show how much we love and appreciate our state social workers in Kentucky and Indiana.

It’s no secret that social workers are often overworked and underpaid. They encounter heartbreaking situations on a daily basis and are over-loaded with stressful cases. In Kentucky, the number of children needing foster homes is on the rise due to the opioid crisis and the number of cases many of our social workers are required to handle is almost twice the recommended caseload.

These social workers need our help! At Orphan Care Alliance, we want to help relieve the load on both vulnerable families and social workers. To do this effectively, we need YOUR assistance! Together, we can make a huge difference in our community.

About Our Gateway Ministry

One of the ways we help vulnerable families and by doing so, show social workers we care, is through our Gateway ministry.  Gateway is simply a way for the church to provide physical needs for families in desperate need. Social workers can input various needs into a simple, online system. Those needs are e-mailed to people who have signed up to be Gateway partners. The needs might be baby beds, clothing items, small furniture or any other physical needs, which when provided, can help preserve the family unit.

When a Gateway partner is able to provide the need, they are connected to the social worker who entered it into the system and provision is given to the family in need. This is one way we as a body of Christ can reach out and show love to vulnerable families and social workers who are in the trenches.

Do you want to be a part of blessing families and social workers? OCA invites you to step out and be a light to serve families in your neighborhood by meeting tangible needs through Gateway. Sign up on our website today at www.ocakids.org with your e-mail to begin meeting the needs in your zip code.

Philippians 2:3-4 says, “do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Will you partner with us to show the love of Christ to families in Kentucky and Southern Indiana who need it most?
