God’s Work in 24 Hours
Friday, May 21, at Necole’s Place, our staff had a conversation with one of our GED graduates, who was present for Bible Study. She had just returned from the doctor’s office, going into her 37th week of pregnancy, and the doctor had advised her to go home, go to bed and try to hold off delivery until 39 weeks. We discussed her plans for her other four children, ages 1 to 9. She had no one to assist her to watch her children.
Our case manager Stephanie Virg spoke with her about Orphan Care Alliance, a local ministry that offers temporary care for families in crisis situations. Our client was very skeptical about leaving her children with ‘strangers,’ but Sarah from OCA had an appointment cancellation, so she was available to come to Necole’s Place to meet with our client at noon. We advised our client to ask the Lord for confirmation and peace before deciding.
As she spoke with Sarah and Stephanie she felt more at peace. Her sister, also a client, came to NP after lunch and spoke to her about the decision and she restated some of the same things Stephanie had said, which amazed our client, since her sister had not been in the meeting. Our client went home to pray about it.
24 hours later, our client returned to meet with Sarah and sign permission papers for her children to go with families from Orphancare. Sarah had found 2 families willing to take the children. Our client talked about the peace she had and how the Lord had provided. We had a spirit-filled prayer and praise before she went to our afternoon Bible study. Then, she went home to get her hospital bag and the children’s suitcases so they could go to their temporary homes and she could head to the hospital!
All during this 24 hour period, she was having contractions and signs of her coming delivery! We prayed this little boy would hold off until Friday evening! Again, we are amazed at how quickly and surely the Lord answered prayer but never surprised that he is always faithful!
