Safe Families for Children: April Update

Posted by Heather Sewell on April 06, 2015  /   Posted in Safe Families

March was another pretty big month for Safe Families and April is going to be no different!

By: Sarah Cook, Safe Families for Children Director

Our Worship Night at Hope Culture Church was a big hit. 25 people came out to worship with us! We had such a great response and there were so many more who couldn’t make it. We are going to start hosting them quarterly. Keep an eye out for dates, our next one will be in July.

Our FIRST ever LIVE TRAINING class is this weekend — Once our new volunteers go through this training we will be in the position to start taking placements again!! WOO HOO! If this doesn’t pump you up, I don’t know what will!

Now that we are so close to being able to taking placements again, I need your help! Are there other ministries that you serve with in your community that could potentially partner with us? We are looking for resources that we can provide to the families we are helping and we are also looking for places that we could be a referral to for families in crisis.

This week I met with two ladies at Family and Children’s Place and after hearing of Safe Families and what we do they will be referring families to us! They also have several programs for the homeless and first time parents that we will be referring families we come into contact with if they need those types of services.

We are looking for ministries, programs, and organizations like this. There is no denying the NEED in our city to help families in crisis is HUGE. There is no way we could do it alone and we don’t want to. I really believe we are BETTER TOGETHERSome examples would be; homeless shelters, parenting classes, doctors offices, daycares, clinics, domestic violence counselors, financial planners, therapists, food banks, etc. If you know of anyone or any place that you think may be worth reaching out to, please let me know!

Huge Praise – Valley View Church has signed on to be a Safe Families Church! We are in the beginning stages of trying to find a ministry lead to represent us within the church. Be praying this person would step forward! Valley View is very intentional about working in their surrounding community and we are so excited to partner with them!

As always, as your sharing Safe Families with Family and Friends if they are showing interest in what we do, please feel free to give them my contact information. The more people we have on our team, the more families we can help! Family Friends and Family Coaches are still a big need for us!

Things happening in April:

LIVE Training – This Saturday! 4/11 9:00 – 1:00 @ OCA Office

Please pray for the 11 new volunteers we have signed up to attend!

Empowered to Connect Simulcast 4/10 – 4/11 10:00-6:00 at Calvary Christian $5.00

Two day conference for adoptive and foster parents, ministry leaders, and professionals designed to help them connect with children from hard places in order to help them heal and become all that God desires for them to be. I will be in attendance on Friday and would love for you to join me!

Prayer Night – 4/14 7:00 – 8:00 OCA Office

The deeper I dive into Safe Families, the more I realize we can’t do this alone. I believe the Lord is calling us into His presence. Starting in April, once a month I will be opening up the OCA office for prayer. One hour a month of intentional prayer. I would love for anyone interested to join me. I’m believing for big things!

Joyce Meyer Conference 4/23 – 4/25 at the KFC Yum Center FREE

If you’re feeling tired or burnt out this would be a great conference to attend and for FREE! There will be incredible worship by Israel Houghton and Joyce Meyer will be bringing the word. This conference has nothing to do with Safe Families, but thought it may be a blessing for someone so I wanted to make sure you knew about it.

Iron Bell Worship Night 4/24 @ 7:00

If you have never been to the Iron Bell for a worship night, I highly recommend checking it out! I experienced it for the first time last month and I am telling you it wrecked me! I walked out better than when I came in. It was incredible. Ive been encouraging everyone I know to check it out ever since!

I am so thankful for each and everyone of you! I am honored to be able to lead you, and walk alongside you. Big things are happening in our city and God chose us to be apart of that. Pretty amazing huh?

If you need anything, or just want to catch up I would love to see you. Thanks for all you do!
