Orphan Care Seminar

A Night of Connecting to Opportunities to Serve

Orphan Care Alliance works with local churches in the greater Kentuckiana area to equip Christians and provide opportunities to connect and care for vulnerable children and families in crisis. On Wednesday, April 27th the Southeast Christian Church Southwest Campus will host an Orphan Care Seminar.

There will be a main session followed by two breakout sessions. Jim Shields will inspire as he gives the audience a ride through the journey of his life as a youth in the foster care system. He will talk about the many people who were in his life who made an impact. As Christians we are called to labor for the Kingdom, but so many times we don’t see the fruit that comes from our faithfulness in serving. Jim’s story gives hope to help us shift the paradigm of serving and discipling others when it seems no fruit will appear.

The breakout sessions will focus on two areas of caring for vulnerable children. The first will be a traditional Adoption Option class, an overview of the types of adoption and the financial implications. The second will be lead by Kentuckiana’s Safe Families for Children director, Sarah Cook and OCA’s Life Coaching Director, Aaron White. These two preventative ministries offer Christians tangible ways to care in one’s every day life without taking the step of adopting or fostering. Safe Families for Children equips Christians to care for families in crisis, while Life Coaching matches volunteers with youth who face the risk of aging out of the foster care system.

This inspirational event will leave you full of energy and a passion you never thought you could have for vulnerable families right here in our community! This event is an introductory step to help attendees connect and serve in areas that fit their lifestyle and who want to make a difference!
