The H3 conference is a place where people “get it”

H3 is a community of people who understand how difficult it can be to care for kids who have experienced childhood trauma.

OCA hosted our 5th annual Help, Hope, Heal Conference on Saturday, October 28. The H3 conference seeks to provide a support network for adoptive and foster families in the Louisville region. Our hope is to provide resources and networking opportunities for individuals and families who are caring for kids from hard places.

Jason Johnson, writer and speaker who seeks to encourage families and equip churches in their foster care and adoption journeys, was our Keynote speaker.  (pictured with his family below)

Don’t take it from us! Here’s what our attendees and exhibitioners have to say!

It was refreshing to be around like-minded people who are all worn out, just like us. That in itself was life-giving, to know that this is a hard job and it’s okay to ask for rest. Amazing conference, as always! – Crissy Smith, Indiana, H3 2017 attendee

“We really believe in the work that OCA does because there’s not a lot of organizations that work in adoption that are willing to say ‘we want you to take these children into your home and we’re going to stand alongside you as you parent them, but you might encounter some bumps along the way… It’s important for our parents to hear that they’re not alone and they’re supported, and that’s why we come every year.” -Jane Samuel, Attachment and Trauma Network

“I appreciate the work OCA does because they pull in resources like us at Think Move Learn, so when parents ask for help or get in over their head, they have resources available to help.” -Tracy Murray,

“We enjoy events like H3 and meet families and see how we can better serve the kids in our community. As kids go from foster family to permanent family, we want to be a consistent part of the medical care.” -Susan Beech, Vice President of Operations at Open Arms Children’s Health

“When we heard OCA was doing a conference, we had to be a part of it. They do such great work bringing people together, parents and families and agencies and trying to connect and network with each other. Oftentimes families feel like they’re alone and they don’t have somebody to network with, and people don’t understand how raising kids from hard places need to be parented I see how they have brought in support from all different resources to help these families, and I love that.” -Marcia Ryan, Chaddock

If you attended, we hope this time was an encouraging experience for you. For more information about the H3 Conference and other OCA events, check out our calendar.
