14 Families in 14 Days: Safe Families for Children

Posted by Heather Sewell on January 21, 2014  /   Posted in Events, Orphan Care, Safe Families, Volunteer Opportunities

Just think, if we can get 40 families to volunteer with the SFFC ministry this year, more than 200 people in our community could be served and loved. Let’s rise up and show this community what Jesus looks like!

Raise your hand if you have heard about Safe Families for Children…good. Now, raise your hand if you have been waiting for a good time to dive deeper into this ministry.

Let’s break down the amount of gospel work you can do this year without having to adopt or foster a child. I may sound like a broken record, but let me say it again, you and your family do not have to adopt or foster children to make a difference for fatherless children in the world (or your backyard).

Effective immediately: Chesson Hazlewood (Safe Families for Children Coordinator) and her team are taking Fridays and fasting for the families in our community. The need is great in Kentuckiana.  But the need for people like YOU is even greater.  In the month of February the goal is to recruit 14 volunteers to serve with the SFFC ministry. If you do not feel like you have what it takes, let us remember Matthew 5 and see what great leaders look like, how Jesus led by example.

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”

Step out in faith knowing that the only strength and courage that you have comes from Christ. He will equip you. He will comfort you. He will strengthen you in your broken and busy lives; Christ will build you up and prepare you for the work set before you.

Still not convinced that you should serve in this ministry? Don’t worry; I totally understand that you need more information. So, here are some fun options.

  1. Host an SFFC house party – Invite your neighbors and family over for a fun filled PARTY! Who doesn’t like parties? Chesson and her crew will come entertain you and your guests for an hour by showing videos and sharing stories of the impact of current and past Safe Families volunteers!
  2. Let’s get serious – Invite Chesson to come speak to your weekly Bible study/community group and pray as a group over how you can serve together to positively impact the lives of families in crisis and their children.
  3. Introduce OCA to your family – Church family that is.  Did you know that we would love to serve you and your church on Sunday mornings? Whether it’s meeting your Sunday school class or a simple OCA table to help spread the mission of the OCA ministries, we would love to come.

You know the need, if you need more information feel free to visit the Safe Families for Children webpage HERE or if you are ready to move forward, email Chesson.
